Wind Farm funding open to the local community
Local community groups and organisations looking for funding can apply to the Tullo & Twinshiels Wind Farms community benefit fund, administered by Mearns Area Partnership. This year’s fund, in the region of £134,000, is open for applications until the 31st January 2016. Successful applicants will be notified in March 2016.
The Tullo & Twinshiels Wind Farms community benefit fund is aimed at backing community and voluntary organisations that supports the elderly, young people and the vulnerable, as well as looking at areas of sustainability, health, heritage, regeneration and environmental. The fund is not available to projects that are supported by the Council.
This year as a result of Twinshiels Wind Farm becoming operational in the middle of 2014, the fund available is higher than usual. From 2016 the fund will return to £1,000 per MW per year for Tullo Wind Farm and £2,750 per MW per year for Twinshiels Wind Farm*. Applications for funding will be assessed for suitability by a panel made up of representatives from Mearns Area Partnership, Kincardineshire Development Partnership and representatives from Arbuthnott, Mearns, Gourdon, Royal Burgh of Inverbervie and Benholm and Johnshaven Community Councils.
Susie Brown from Mearns Area Partnership commented: “The Tullo & Twinshiels Wind Farms community benefit fund is open to new applications and we are really looking forward to receiving as many as possible. The fund has already helped and enhanced the lives of those living in our community and I look forward to this continuing. This year’s fund is particularly special as it’s an enhanced fund due to Twinshiels Wind Farm becoming operational mid-way through 2014.”
The Tullo Wind Farm community benefit fund has been in place since 2011 with the bolstered Twinshiels fund contributing since 2014. To date, the fund has benefitted more than 50 local projects. Renewable energy company, Eneco own and operate the Tullo and Twinshiels Wind Farms.
