Celebrating the history of the Highlands

Renewable energy company, Eneco UK (Eneco) calls on people across Lochluichart Wind Farm communities to celebrate the history of the Highlands.

Members of the community are being encouraged to visit their family tree and share stories (and pictures) about their past ancestors’ – these can include anything from stories at the local dance clubs to how family members made a living in the area. Meanwhile, local children are asked to get out their paint brushes and draw a picture of something about the Highlands past they know and love.

All stories and pictures provided by the community will be displayed inside the Aultguish Tourism Bothy, located at The Aultguish Inn, Garve. Here, members of the public will be able to read and enjoy stories about the history of the surrounding local area.

Zoisa Walton, Country Director for Eneco UK commented: “During the construction of Lochluichart Wind Farm, we wanted to make sure the local area was still celebrated. Therefore, we designed the Aultguish Tourism Bothy to provide visitors with information about the surrounding area. Now we want to bring a personal element to the Bothy by celebrating those that once lived in the area.”

If you have a story that you would like to share with Eneco and your community, please post or email it to Eneco UK, 3 Athena Court, Athena Drive, Tachbrook Park, Warwick, CV34 6RT or michelle.giblin@eneco.com.

The Aultguish Tourism Bothy opened on 01 June 2015 and celebrates the panorama in which it is set. It hosts information about renewable energy and the surrounding Highland landscape. The Bothy is open from April through to October, 9am-5pm, Monday – Saturday.
